Card games are believed

Card games are believed to have arrived from Egypt in the 14th century. Back then the standard card packs consisted of 20 cards. Thanks to the trade connections card games went to Italy and Spain where the first cards used the Latin suits: Coins, Cups, Batons/Clubs, Swords. The first English playing cards used these suits too but finally they moved to the modern Spades, Clubs Hearts, and Diamonds suits which have been used in France since 1480. Now such suits are counted as standard and are applied in all decks.

Poker game is the most widespread game in the world and other games, nevertheless its origin is quite hard to determine. The name of poker may come from different sources. According to one theory it originated from the French card game that was known as the “poque”. Nevertheless, some historians say that up-to-date poker takes its root from the German gambling game known as “pochspiel”. Pochspiel game was similar to poker since it also included some bluffing elements.

French settlers brought

French settlers brought popular game to the US where it was played also with the deck of 20 cards. Moreover, in those card games the winner was indicated by the best card combination but the range of the combinations was narrow: one pair, two pair, triplets, “full” and four of a kind. Later the game turned to be popular around the US. Poker was the symbol of Wild West.

Poker was the most recognized game around the planet in the 20th century. Since then poker game was the sport game, sophisticated skill card game but not the game of swindlers. It was the period when professional poker appeared.

After the introduction of poker tournaments for example World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour, European Poker Tour and others there was the poker popularity explosion. Since that time poker games were broadcasted on TV but that did not have a lot fans because the viewers were unable to see the hole cards. In a while after the invention of the hole-cards camera poker broadcasting became more thrilling and a bit dramatic. Since then TV poker competitions are the common feature of modern culture.

The Internet world has added to poker games fame. Due to the introduction of the Internet and number of poker halls poker game got its true fans among the Internet users. These days online card rooms are the perfect place to try all possible poker variations.
